About us

Our history
Moritz Gelati is the result of Maurizio's innovative vision to add a special touch to the dining scene in Celerina. Maurizio's inspiration was to introduce the culture of artisanal ice cream to the area, something that had been missing in the Engadin until then.
Moritz Gelati carries a special meaning in its name. In fact, "Moritz" is inspired both by the name of Maurizio, the creator of this delicious product, and by the well-known tourist destination of St. Moritz, which is located nearby. Since 2014, Maurizio has been producing ice cream in the Samedan workshop.

The art of ice cream making
Compared to industrially produced ice creams, Moritz ice cream offers an authentic, artisanal taste experience, as a result of the great care and attention paid to each stage of production.
Before the production process, Moritz carefully selects fresh, top-quality ingredients. Milk and cream, for example, come exclusively from the valleys of Graubünden. The fruit, on the other hand, is selected according to specific standards to guarantee the quality of the final product.
As a result, the product is clearly different from industrially produced ice creams. Indeed, Moritz ice creams offer a creamy consistency and a genuine taste, as well as being healthier than industrially produced ice creams.

Quality assurance
The differences between artisanal and industrial ice cream mainly emerge when taking variability of taste and consistency into account.
On the one hand, artisanal ice cream contains carefully selected ingredients and makes use of few additives. For this reason, taste and consistency can vary constantly. On the other hand, industrial ice creams are characterised by an excessive uniformity of taste and consistency, as they are obtained through the massive use of additives and preservatives.
This substantial difference, which is often overlooked, is of crucial importance in guaranteeing the quality of Moritz ice cream.
